when i run "firestarter" as root i get this dialog-message:

Code:
A proper configuration for Firestarter was not found. If you are running Firestarter from the directory you built it in, run 'make install-data-local' to install a configuration, or simply 'make install' to install the whole program.

Firestarter will now close.

when i try to start /etc/init.d/firestarter start it tells me to run "firestarter" to configure it.

But i must ask ..

Did you run the firestarter gui and go through the configuration first ?
ex in a desktop environment's terminal
/usr/bin/firestarter

Firestarter does require you to go through the wizard once.
After that the /etc/init.d/firestarter start should work without trouble.
