I had a channel on Freenode called #gentoo-n00b. It was not hurting anyone. It was just a place for anyone new to gentoo to come in and hang out. Unfortunately, the people in charge of the gentoo namesake on Freenode decided that my channel was unfit to bear the gentoo name, so they had Freenode disable it. My little channel did not get very many visitors and I myself, being a n00b, did not have answers for everyone coming in but I will miss being there. Anyway, I needed to vent a bit of frustration. I do realize that they had every right to do it but I do wish it did not have to be so. I suppose that is all and don't worry, I am only somewhat leaning towards switching distros because of this. J/K.

While i'm tempted to believe your channel did not hurt anyone, imagine this:
Some guy makes a channel called #gentoo-n00b. People who are aware of the freenode policies and know other #gentoo-* channels enter this channel and believe this is an official channel. Some guy in that channel gives them wrong information, resulting in data loss, compromised boxes and their private data floating around the internet.
The freenode policy was made to prevent stuff like that happens.
As Astinus said, no one will have a problem if you create ##gentoo-n00b.
