I want to set up a system that acts as router and firewall for a wireless connection I connect to and then distribute over cables (to other computres in my room. Is there any way to do this? I've tried it with windows alot and I think I tried it once before on gentoo but I don't know if I did anything right before and it was long ago. |

Yes, it can be done quite trivially. Just like the example here, except that instead of a cable modem and a ethernet card, you have the access point to which you connect, and your wireless nic.
http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_setup_a_home-server#Network
Following that or other standard guides will probably have you ending up with a sort of double-NAT'ed network which can be a little weird and sometimes problematic, but should be fine if you don't need to forward any ports to the wired machines. If desired, you could forego NAT and just setup a firewall/router; having the wired clients get IPs from the wireless AP or other dhcp server. |
