I just noticed something

While installing gentoo I copied things like modinfo and cpuinfo to a file incase I needed them later.

During the install this was the output, (cpu MHz : 1495.191)

processor : 0
vendor_id : GenuineIntel
cpu family : 6
model : 9
model name : Intel(R) Pentium(R) M processor 1500MHz
stepping : 5
cpu MHz : 1495.191
cache size : 1024 KB
fdiv_bug : no
hlt_bug : no
f00f_bug : no
coma_bug : no
fpu : yes
fpu_exception : yes
cpuid level : 2
wp : yes
flags : fpu vme de pse tsc msr mce cx8 sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat clflush dts acpi mmx fxsr sse sse2 tm pbe est tm2
bogomips : 2949.12

If I look at cpuinfo now I get, (cpu MHz: 598.123)

processor : 0
vendor_id : GenuineIntel
cpu family : 6
model : 9
model name : Intel(R) Pentium(R) M processor 1500MHz
stepping : 5
cpu MHz : 598.123
cache size : 1024 KB
fdiv_bug : no
hlt_bug : no

coma_bug : no
fpu : yes
fpu_exception : yes
cpuid level : 2

flags : fpu vme de pse tsc msr mce cx8 sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat clflush dts acpi mmx fxsr sse sse2 tm pbe est tm2
bogomips : 1198.14

Does anybody know why this might be happaning?

Thanks

I guess speedstep is what is being alluded to here. A feature of the Pentium M.
