Hello,
I am using a Toshiba M60 laptop and am having a problem custom-compiling a kernel, which I never usually have a problem with.
When booting the kernel, pressing enter in grub to boot into 2.6.15 will simply load 5 lines of text, then it will stop processing.
These lines, are something like this;
Booting 'Gentoo Linux 2.6.15' ext2
Few More Lines
[Linux=bzImage, Screen 0x1024, Size=0x57488]
(Sorry for not being specific, however, I've reverted back to windows temporarily and thus cant paste).
Now, on #gentoo I was told it could be the Sata controller, however, IMO I have built all intel SATA controllers into the kernel and there wasn't a problem, framebuffer is also disabled.
As a note, the same error has been produced on a Stage3 and Stage1 bootstrap, march=pentium3 and Gcc 3.4.5 pentium-m.
Secondly, I can genkernel and boot into that, however, I would rather have a custom .config, as this is what I am used to and like to avoid coldplugging and initrd.
Does anyone have any idea to the somewhat vague error above, or have a nice working config for a Toshiba M60
Thanks guys |

There is only one way to find out what it happening. When you genkernel, pass the --menuconfig option. Take out everything that you think that you do not need, save, continue, and see what happens.
You might just be missing some small option that you do actually need. So if it does not boot when you do that, that means that you have to look through the options that you took off and determine which is the one that you need. |
