Hi,

I am new here. Very good community. Been working with Gentoo for about 6 months now (Linux and RTOS for a while) but never really had to deal with wireless. My Suse Laptop pretty much has the wireless configuration straight forward. Anyway, I built/installed a Gentoo on a T30 Laptop today from Stage1 via 3 - with the nptl and I couldn't get the wireless to come up. Looked at my Suse Build (same laptop) and noticed orinoco was the module being used. But according to some info in the net -- it is better to use the prism54 driver. After 4 kernel rebuilds I emerged the orinoco driver, autoloaded it and my wireless card came up.

So I guess I am up and running. I did the search but can't really find if I am loosing anything by using orinoco. Is there something else missing for the prism54 to not interface with the wireless card. Any other method to get the MiniPCI Intersil Wireless card to comeup without using orinoco if the orinoco driver has problems indeed.

Thanks in advance!

Noel Paz

BTW here's what lspci showed me:

Code:
02:02.0 Network controller: Intersil Corporation Prism 2.5 Wavelan chipset (rev 01)

These info was absolute wrong!
You can maybe use the hostap-driver.

use HostAP because is supports WPA/WPA2 where as the orinoco driver only works with WEP.
