After a emerge world -u
Amarok no longer starts, it complains about no sound libraries being installed.
I ran revdep-rebuild which suggests the following;
[ebuild R ] kde-base/kdemultimedia-3.3.2
[ebuild R ] sys-apps/dbus-0.23.4-r1
The problem is when I try to recompile kdemulitmedia I get this;
Code: |
checking for kde-config... /usr/kde/3.3/bin/kde-config
/usr/kde/3.3/bin/kde-config: symbol lookup error: /usr/kde/3.3/lib/libkdecore.so.4: undefined symbol: _ZThn152_N10QPopupMenu10updateItemEi
configure: error: /usr/kde/3.3/bin/kde-config --prefix outputed the non existent prefix '' for kdelibs.
This means it has been moved since you installed it.
This won't work. Please recompile kdelibs for the new prefix. |
Recompiling kdelibs hasn't helped. The weird thing is I am running kde 3-4, even though there are kde3.3 kde3.4 and kde3.5 directories on my system.
Two questions
1.How I can untangle this and get amarok working again?
and
2. How do I switch the kde 3.5?
Many thanks. |

Number 1 I am not sure about yet as I recently switched to KDE 3.5 and I just found out amaroK isn't starting as normal yet so that is ongoing... I am re-installing against 3.5 at the moment (I think )
Number 2 is quite easy though - when you get to the KDM login screen you should see KDE 3.5 as an option in your sessions menu - just choose that and away you go. _________________ Hamish ThePolarBear |

OK - I just reinstalled amaroK while logged in to KDE 3.5 and it works fine now. You may need to tidy up your KDE install to get rid of the older ones (although you may want to keep 3.4 since it is officially stable in Gentoo Portage) but I am afraid I am a bit less help there. I followed the 3.4 to 3.5 upgrade threads on the forums here and all seems well. I have uninstalled most of 3.4 but there are some residual files - presumably from apps that I haven't reinstalled since I installed 3.5, like amaroK
I hope that is some help to you _________________ Hamish ThePolarBear |

This is weird. I switched to 3.5 like you suggested, amarok works fine! Haven't the rev-dep thing again yet. Wish I had figured that out before my new year's eve party! I still had my CD -player, so its was all good
Save yourself hours of hassle, just ask someone *sigh* Thanks |

Although Amarok is working, the rev-dep problem is still there. Everything seems to work okay though. |
