I have Gentoo installed on a Compaq V2311US, and I have encountered a interesting problem. I cannot reboot the system via "init 6" or alt+ctrl+delete, even as root. The system goes through the normal shutdown routine, then displays a black screen. Then I have to manually turn it off and on. Another intersting note is that "init 0" will power down the system in a short time. I have no idea where to look to try to fix this problem. Trying to google reboot+hang+gentoo wasn't too helpful... lots of unrelated stuff. Can anyone help me?
Some important info.
Kernel Version: 2.6.14-r5, from gentoo sources
Proc: Amd Turion ML-28
Laptop has been dropped a few times
Windows XP can reboot/shutdown without user action.
Kernel config: if you need it i'll post it, don't want to clutter up the post.
PS still working on getting all features working.
TODO= wireless card, sound card, power management, |

I have had situations like this on a few machines. It usually had to do with either misconfigured ACPI stuff, or a faulty implementation of ACPI in the machine's BIOS. If you do not need power management, try disabling it in your kernel build. If that makes your problem go away, then at least you know where to look deeper. Obviously on a laptop, you need power management unless it is always on a charger, and even then yu want the screen backlight to shut down after a timeout. _________________ The MyWord KJV Bible tool is at http://www.elilabs.com/~myword
