Code:

ecce@localhost ~ $ vmware
vmware is installed, but it has not been (correctly) configured
for this system. To (re-)configure it, invoke the following command:
/opt/vmware/workstation/bin/vmware-config.pl.

This is what happens, even if I run the config script 100 times (as root). vmware workstation is version 5.0.0.13124-r5. Seems a lot of people have problems with vmware, but I found no thread about this particular problem.

Is there any stale not_configured file in /etc/vmware/? If so, delete it and try running vmware again.

Ciao,

Yes, I hade a file called not_configured. I removed it and this happened:

Code:

localhost vmware # /opt/vmware/workstation/bin/vmware-config.pl
Making sure services for VMware Workstation are stopped.

/etc/vmware/init.d/vmware: line 1010: [: -: integer expression expected
/etc/vmware/init.d/vmware: line 933: [: -: integer expression expected
Stopping VMware services:
   Virtual machine monitor                                            failed
   Bridged networking on /dev/vmnet0                                   done
   Virtual ethernet                                                   failed
Unable to stop services for VMware Workstation

Execution aborted.

Code:

localhost vmware # ps aux | grep vmware
root     15762  0.0  0.0   1500   464 pts/0    S+   21:46   0:00 grep vmware

Now what?

Any modules related to vmware loaded you could unload manually first? You could also try running vmware-config.pl -skipstopstart
Btw. you might wanna update to vmware 5.5 anyway.

I managed to get the config going. Guess what happened when I tried to execute the vmware binary;

Code:

ecce@localhost ~ $ vmware is installed, but it has not been (correctly) configured
for this system. To (re-)configure it, invoke the following command:
/opt/vmware/workstation/bin/vmware-config.pl.

The not_configured file in /etc/vmware has not returned.

Anyway I'll upgrade to 5.5 in a few days when I can reboot, maybe things work better then. I'm so barried in work right now I don't have time to troubleshoot it anyway, so I think we should end this thread.

Thanks anyway.
