hello i´ m new in the gentoo comitee :wink:
i´m installing alsa, i already install the drivers and the utilities.
but now as i use alsaconf i got the following error :

No supported PnP or PCI card found.
Would you like to probe legacy ISA sound cards/chips?

i have an intel sound card "ICH6". and the system recognize it, but not alsaconf.
i have gernkernel v: 3.3.10 with all updates.
did someone have an idea what i can do?

Type
Code:
dmesg
in a terminal and paste the outcome in your next message.
While you're at it, dump the outcome of
Code:
lsmod
.

Did you build the support for your soundchip, selecting the appropriate one using:
Code:
genkernel --menuconfig
?

uncomment
Code:
## alias snd-card-0 snd-interwave

And change into:
Code:
alias snd-card-0 snd-intel8x0

After that do:
Code:
/etc/init.d/alsasound restart

You should reconfigure your kernel and modules then.
Code:
genkernel --menuconfig all

Have you reviewed and attempted the steps outlined in the following link to the ALSA guide provided on Gentoo's website?

http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/alsa-guide.xml

This will show you how to configure ALSA in either of the following two ways:

1. via kernel
2. via driver

I suggest using the driver method as you receive updates more often this way.
Do take note of the kernel configuration steps to make sure you have done everything properly before you proceed.

with " modprobe snd-intel8x0 " is no error
i changed the both lines from / etc/modules.d/alsa :
alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel
alias sound-slot-0 snd-hda-intel

to :
alias snd-card-0 snd-intel8x0
alias sound-slot-0 snd-intel8x0

but as i do alsasound start i get this :

/etc/rc.conf: line 18: kdm: command not found
* Loading ALSA modules ...
* Loading: snd-card-0 ...
FATAL: Module snd_hda_intel not found. [ !! ]
* Loading: snd-seq-oss ... [ ok ]
* Loading: snd-pcm-oss ... [ ok ]
* ERROR: Failed to load necessary drivers [ ok ]
* Restoring Mixer Levels ...
