I am trying to install gentoo and got to the step were you are supposed to edit the make.conf but it doesn't exist. what should I do?

As you probably noticed, the make.conf.example file is structured in a generic way: commented lines start with "#", other lines define variables using the VARIABLE="content" syntax. The make.conf file uses the same syntax. Several of those variables are discussed next.

if make.conf isn't there i would redue your partion with the stage3 install and portage did you verify the md5 check sums

I did re-start the install but it happened agian. I have never varified my stage downlaods.

i would i have had bad downloads only when it was the latest if i choose the date before they worked ok
