Hi, I am currently installing Gentoo. But I allready ran into my first problem, I don't know how it works... I am currently in the 'first interactive phase'. So I can type install, but then it says: "too few arguments". What argument should I say? I have a laptop, if that is usefull. Please help me.

If you're using the most recent Universal Install, type:
Code:
links2 /mnt/cdrom/docs/html/index.html

..to view the documentation, or view it online with a different PC. Typing install will not work!

Hi Portaged,

a few more information would help in helping you.

What do you mean with first interactive phase?

-> console in a chroot environment in a running system ( knoppix? , gentoo? )
-> new system booted, local console
-> ...

Can you tell us which kind of CPU you have ( P2, P3, P4, AMD64, ... )
and which gentoo handbook you refer to?

Do you use the Gentoo handbook?

Where in the Handbook are you?

kind regards

Thanks, but considering that English isn't my native language and I am just 13 years of age, I don't speak English that well. So I don't understand it completely. Can't you just say what I should type if I just want to install it?

I have got an Pentium M 740. And about the handbook... I haven't started with it... Because I thought it was as easy as Ubuntu... And I couldn't jump in from the middle, because they did things in the start that I haven't done.
I am installing it from the CD on top of windows...

And with 'first interactive phase', I mean the black screen with 'livecd root #' on it. Or can you tell me how to exit the wizard? Or is that dangerous for my system?

told him I could help him in dutch if he needed it ;)

here is a guide in dutch. Don't know what version it is written for though.

link

there is actually no wizard in gentoo but you have to manually install it. this is not as difficult as it first seems
there is no danger in exiting the installation. just shut your system down by using 'shutdown -h now'
if you mounted some disks, first unmount them before you power off by the button on your computer itself

hint: read through the installation manual first before you start. it will help you alot

Gentoo doesn't install on its own, it's not as simple as typing a command, you need to copy things and set things up, typing a bunch of commands. Each install is somewhat different. You're gonna have to tough it out and read through the manual, or find someone to help you! Don't get discouraged!
