Hi,
I've been updating my machine and i think i screw up my X.
After making an emerge -e world that was terminated after some problems with a emerge --update --deep --newuse, also made a deep clean and a revdep-rebuild.
After all this i started my Xfce i didnt had the mice fading in and out, no icons and the windows are very strange., can't do nothing more than opening strange windows.
when i force quit i see some errors of missing font directories.
can any one tell me whats going on and how can i fix this?
many thx _________________ Imaginando o futuro

The mnissing font directory errors aren't fatal, I wouldn't worry too much about them.
What is important is the status of your /etc/rc.conf file. Does it mention XSESSION="Xfce" near the bottom? |

Ok, more diagnostics are needed. The "strange windows" you mention is probably to be the twm window manager, this is the default WM that xorg uses when no valid WM is specified.
Can you describe more clearly what happens when you start X?
What do you use to start xfce?
Look in /var/log/Xorg.0.log, see if it is giving you any warnings or errors.
Does "etc-update"show any config files that need updating? |

Hi,
The problem was finally solved. I just discover that my RIVA became obsolete for the new nvidia drivers. Luckly i have a GEFORCE MX 440 which is supported, to replace it.
Many thx anyway _________________ Imaginando o futuro
