Does anybody experience Xorg (6.9) starts eating 100% CPU after about 24 hours of continuous running? After restarting X everything backs to normal for another 24 hours.
Happens with all 2.6.15-nitros.

Maybe it's similar to http://qa.mandriva.com/twiki/bin/view/Main/MandrivaLinux2006Errata#High_CPU_usage_by_X_org, it has been discussed on the ck-mailing list but no solution has yet surfaced that I know of.

I use 1G/3G user/kernel split.

If you can use a split that makes all your memory lowmem, use the lowest value that will do it. Otherwise choose a split that makes your memory half lowmem/highmem.

So how do I apply the patch for the vmware modules?
I've never actually messed around with manual patching before :)

As it looks like you should reverse that patch. So thats what you need to do:
Code:
cd /usr/src/linux <-directory should point to the correct latest nitro kernel
patch -p1 --dry-run < /tmp/31_back_lowmem

If there are no Failed messages you can apply it definitely with:
Code:

patch -p1 < /tmp/31_back_lowmem

Good luck

cd to the kernel sources directory
patch -p1 -i /<full>/<path>/<to>/<the>/<patch>/<file>

To any other problems: can't address them because of two reasons now:
1) exams
2) bad experience with trying to solve the libata issue for any price just to find out the problem is unsolvable for now without taking
out the version that provides a driver which i need
Wait for another nitro, will happen in foreseenable timespan. (strange sentence 8O )

PS: keep in mind, you're on the bleeding edge with these sources, and sometimes it's bleeding alot

Or just
Code:
echo 'media-sound/sox -alsa'>>/etc/portage/package.use
[/code]

The number on the right (kernel) is the amount of lowmem you'll get in a user/kernel split.

I also installed this beauty on my workstation. It works fine: Including the intel sata hardware :D But thats probably because I choosed some legacy options in the bios for that, which I can't on my notebook.
