PAM LDAP authentication opens a lot of connections

hello

i set up ldap authentication via pam_ldap & nss_ldap against an openldap server and its working,
BUT;
when i log in as an "ldap-user", for every app i start, i can see an ESTABLISHED connection to the ldap server with netstat ?!

is this normal behaviour?
