Hi. I'm trying to emerge eagle-usb on my just installed Gentoo system. Portage needs to download dependencies off the internet, but I'm without an internet connection! I've taken a look at what it's trying to install and downloaded the packages with my other OS on the PC, copied them to /usr/portage/distfiles, but I can't find one package ( ppp-2.4.3-patches-20050514.tar.gz ), so it won't work

Could anyone help??

Thanks

Luca

You've probably got an old version of the ebuild, because there is a file ppp-2.4.3-patches-20051105.tar.gz. Download a portage snapshot (e.g. http://gentoo.osuosl.org/snapshots/portage-latest.tar.bz2) and untar it to /usr/portage. Or, if the 21MB is too much to download/copy, you can download just PPP (the version I have on my machine; I haven't synched particularly recently, but it asks for the correct version of the patch) from http://mew.ssxh.net/files/ppp.tar.gz .

I untarred the portage snapshot as you said, but I get an security warning when emerging eagle-usb about a dependency non being in the manifest, and the emerge won't proceed

Thanks for your help

Try another version of the snapshot. (The manifest lists the md5sums of the downloaded distfiles, and is part of the snapshot.)

Did as you said, but I get the same message. ( BTW the package portage stops on is ppp-2.4.3-r6.tar.gz. It also says something about ppp-2.4.3-r10.tar.gz. Maybe it's looking for r10 but finding r6? )

Thanks again

Luca
