I have ordered a computer that has the soundblaster audigy 4 pro soundcard. From searching the forum I have found out that people have problems with this soundcard in Gentoo, particularly in using the breakout box.
My question: Can this soundcard ever work in Gentoo, OR should I not bother and try some other distribution of Linux.
Please bear in mind, I have no idea what I'm talking about and have never used any distribution of Linux before. |

The audigy 4 should work fine in any linux distribution, since the alsa driver's are common to them all.
The audigy4 is basically a audigy2ZS with better DAC's and a breakout box.
It was pretty much written off as too expensive for it actually is.
Stick to the Audigy2 if you value your $$$.
What are your sound card needs? Is hardware mixing a must, or do you prefer better sound quality. Be advised there
is an important trade off here. |
