|
|
Hi there, I tried to search the forums for this one, because I thought it'd be a common problem, but I guess not.
Anyways!
I use alsa, built-in in the kernel, with some oss emulation and such also built-in.
I emerged quake3-bin, quake3-data and quake3-osp, but ofcourse the sound didn't work directly, so I did this:
echo "quake3.x86 0 0 direct" > /proc/asound/card0/pcm0p/oss
echo "quake3.x86 0 0 disable" > /proc/asound/card0/pcm0c/oss
echo "quake3.x86 0 0 disable" > /proc/asound/card0/pcm1c/oss
I have this mixer:
http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Skype#Single_card_ALSA_dmix.2Fdsnoop.2Fasym
sound works in quake3 until I enter a map, when both X and Quake 3 suddenly crashes.
suggestions?
thanks |

well i had that problem before
i had used the quake3 (old one ) it had lot's of problems with sound i don't think it was alsa compatible
well here is what you do
Quote: | emerge --sync as a root
and then emerge quake3 |
because i checked out this link
http://www.icculus.org/quake3/?page=get
i had used thier svn version and worked fine for me
now they have included thier quake3 in the portage so no need to build and make hurrah for you
and this problem was posted in the forum before so you gotta check for old posts |

well, if you didn't get it working, I probably won't either.
However I tried to emerge quake3, but it's masked for ~amd64.
So I did ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86" emerge quake3 instead, but it failed
I guess I have to wait for a stable version :] |

hehe sorry, I forgot about this post.
Anyway I use their binaries instead, and it works great :] (well, I can't get sound in xmms while playing q3, but I'm glad to have it.)
thanks for the help |
