PostPosted: Mon Jan 23, 2006 2:14 pm    Post subject: resolution problem Reply with quote

Hi,
I have a wxga lcd monitor, which uses a 1440x900 resolution.
I've configured my xorg.conf to use that resolution, using the nvidia "gtf" utility for calculate the Modeline (I have a geforce6600 card).

Here is my problem: when I start a window manager (I've tried with kdm and the default X wm, which starts just typing "startx"), I have this strange result: my display area seems to be 4:3, centered in the screen (so I have two black columns at the left and at the right), but the image is stretched and not proportional. I mean, it's not a pure 4:3 image, but is like a wxga image (I mean, an image which have the right proportions with a wxga resolution) "compacted" into 4:3.

I've checked many times my log, and the resolution is actually 1440x900.
Reading the OSD of my monitor, it says that the resolution and vertical refresh are 1440x900 at 60 hz, so it seems ok.
Also, the Xorg log says that the virtual screen is 1440x900.

I can't find where the problem is, need some help

Here is my xorg.conf file:
