after a restarting my laptop I'm now getting:

Code:

bash: /usr/lib/misc/xprint: No such file or directory

or when I run

Code:

$source /etc/profile

I didn't even do an update on the previous boot-cycle, so I'm not sure how this changed. perhaps I had a hd error.

Thanks in advance to any advice

An hd error is possible so I'd definatly run fsck. Why don't you try reemerging cups?

You probably want to delete /etc/profile.d/xprint.sh.

This works.. For those of you who actually want xprint functionality I think it's in the xorg-x11 pacakge you have to set a use flag.
