Ok, i was trying to make my promise card work and i noticed this:
bash-2.05b# fdisk -l
Disk /dev/ide/host2/bus1/target0/lun0/disc: 61.4 GB, 61492838400 bytes
16 heads, 63 sectors/track, 119150 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 1008 * 512 = 516096 bytes
Disk /dev/ide/host2/bus1/target0/lun0/disc doesn't contain a valid partition table
Disk /dev/ide/host2/bus0/target0/lun0/disc: 61.4 GB, 61492838400 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 7476 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes
Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/ide/host2/bus0/target0/lun0/part1 * 1 14952 120101908+ 7 HPFS/NTFS
Disk /dev/ide/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/disc: 10.1 GB, 10110320640 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 1229 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes
Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/ide/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/part1 * 1 392 3148708+ 7 HPFS/NTFS
/dev/ide/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/part2 393 1229 6723202+ f Win95 Ext'd (LBA)
/dev/ide/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/part5 393 1163 6193026 83 Linux
/dev/ide/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/part6 1164 1229 530113+ 82 Linux swap
Wtf! what ever happend to /dev/hda1 etc.. I'm thinking theres something in my kernel, vanilla 2.4.20, that i forgot to compile because even tho i have my Promise and Ide raid enabled and it shows up while booting i have no /dev/ataraid. I know that last part about the raid was a bit vauge, but right now i'm just really scratching my head with all this /dev/ide/host0/blsdafl;fasdlksdflkfsd nonsense. Any thoughts? |

Also, one more minor thing thats been bugging me, i can't compile promise raid support as a module in menuconfig, it only compiles built in to the kernel.. and does not seem to be working for me.. anyone had any similar experiences? i'm using 2.4.20 vanilla and have tried 2.4.20-ck also with the same results.
Edit: figured out the no /dev/ataraid part but still stumped as to why all my disk are labled so weird, for example the raid partiton is /dev/ataraid/disc0/part1 instead of the usuall /dev/ataraid/d0p1 . |

i think the raid /dev naming is part of devfsd, there should be symlinks from /dev/ataraid/disc0/part1 to /dev/ataraid/d0p1, if there isnt check in devfsd.conf for raid settings. _________________ 95% of all computer errors occur between chair and keyboard (TM)
