|
|
I was just wondering if I can make a tar gzip of my whole Gentoo partition (only 4.4gb) to put ona DVD-r. And with this, if I ever needed to restore my system, would I just boot to a restore system like disk and untar it? I could easily do this even with Gentoo LiveCD. Is it possible?
Thanks. |

Sure, it's possible. However, as was pointed out elsewhere on the boards,
if you're using compression, one corrupted bit can cause your whole archive
to be unusable.

But you can test your archive while compressing with the -t option. For example : tar -cvjtf /backup.tbz2 /
But a secure way to backup a complete partition is dump. |
