Let me say upfront, I do not want a program to manage my firewall for me.

I just need something that can assist me with assigning/deleting rules via some GUI. Suggestions?

Only reason I'm asking is because I tried firestarter and it completely rewritten my iptable layout, I didn't like it.

"Layout" is an interesting word, since iptables rules are processed in order. Did it improve the efficiency of the rules?

It didn't improve anything, it seemed to block everything I needed to go through.

I didn't even see the old rules I had written in, I think it flushed the table.

You could say 'in order' was an interested choice of words. Surely it will traverse (or not) the various chains, or parts thereof, as dictated by the rules appertaining to the specific packet. But I digress.

The single greatest firewall assistance program is your web browser and the following url

Cannot be beaten.
