The CD Continues!
Hello everyone, After past future successful releases of the Conrad Install CD, I believe this is the best release ever.
FaB (Features and Benefits)
1 ) Install gentoo with the fastest filesystem yet! (reiser4)
2 ) See the beautiful custom conrad fbsplash in action! (about 8-10 resolutions supported)
3 ) Play Songs with MPlayer! (alsa is auto-configured)
Hmm, I can ONLY play songs? NO :-p
4 ) Play Videos with MPlayer (using svgalib/framebuffer only!)
5 ) Play the fun terminal game 'moon-buggy'
6 ) Use ndiswrapper to painlessly connect to wireless network
7 ) Use bitlbee, irssi, and pork for instant messaging and irc
8 ) Use the telnet-bsd client for telnet
9 ) Play the included mp3 'twisted-transistor' for quick entertainment
All on a text-based LiveCD? Yes. All on a text-based LiveCD

Please add minicom and cu.
XMMS2 wouldn't be so bad either, since it IS a console based player that doesn't need your direct attention.
All you have to do is do xmms2-launcher, then xmms2 add *files* or xmms2 radd for directories, then xmms2 play, stop, next, shuffle etc..
Thanks. _________________ "With every rise, there is a fall." |

Thanks. | I think mpd is a good option for this kind of feature in conjonction with ncmpc (ncurses based mpd client).

Is there a possibility to boot the kernel with specific options? Because I would need to boot the kernel with 'irqpoll', without this option my ipw2200 won't work => no internet connection => no installation _________________ There are only 10 kinds of people in the world, those who understand binary and those who don't. |

No I do not think you can do that with isolinux :X
you may be able to get a command line and specify specific instructions to boot there.
Anyway, the next release is already far in the creation process (0.6.0) and I will be sure to include irqpoll in the boot options. _________________ IRC!: #zen-sources on irc.rizon.net

Ok, and when will 0.6.0 be released? As I read, it will be based on 2.6.15-no3, which contains sky2 ethernet, so it wouldn't be necessary for me to get the WLAN working

Actually, 2.6.15-no4 (bugfix release) it will be released this week, no exact date set. _________________ IRC!: #zen-sources on irc.rizon.net

How far is the 0.6.0 CD from being finished? I would really need it, because I want to install my system using Conrad Install Guide _________________ There are only 10 kinds of people in the world, those who understand binary and those who don't. |

I think you can
Doing some research, type this at the isolinux boot line.
"conrad irqpoll" that should use the default boot options and irqpoll.
----
btw it was reversioned to 1.0.0, it will take some time yet to arrive. _________________ IRC!: #zen-sources on irc.rizon.net

Ok: when I type
at the boot line, it's the same as if I would boot with just pressing enter (I checked dmesg, nothing about irqpoll)
Any ideas?
EDIT: I'll use the old 0.2.2 CD, doesn't matter. _________________ There are only 10 kinds of people in the world, those who understand binary and those who don't. |

Ok, I already added irqpoll to the 1.0.0 cd's bootloader, sorry for the trouble :X _________________ IRC!: #zen-sources on irc.rizon.net

Pls take special care with ACPI for 0.6, this live cd almost fried my laptop (N620c) as it caused the fan to switch off. Fortunately, CPU was in constant speed throttling.
I haven't seen this problem with Rescue Is Possible Live CD, ACPI support is fine there. |

If its not to late, could you add "nodetect" to the boot options? That way, nothing is autodetected for people whos computers lock up when the disc tries to autodetect the hardware. I havent been able to use any of your LiveCD's because of this, I've been stuck with Ixnay's RR64 disc, but its bulky and slow. I would appreciate if you could! Good luck on all your projects. |

Thankyou
the "nodetect" option will be added also. there will also be a nohotplug option, and the options will have irqpoll.
LiveCD 1.0.0 is still in progress _________________ IRC!: #zen-sources on irc.rizon.net

If you are wondering what is taking so long on livecd 1.0.0 (if you asked me, you probally are )
It is going to be an overhaul, which is going to mean.
1) Being built from scratch
2) Adding 30-50 isolinux boot opts (like gentoo CD)
3) A compatibility-based kernel patchset (conradcd-sources)
4) Same conrad fbsplash as in 0.5.1
5) Better network FS support (shfs, etc)
6) Smaller download (take away more items from CD)
7) Build with gcc-4.1, make the binaries on the CD load a lot faster.
Add requested packages to the CD (such as moc,mpd,xmms2,lynx, etc)
9) Make fbsplash go to every term, rather than 1
10) isolinux overhaul, remove it completely, add theone similar to gentoo CD, with 30? options.
11) Will be for i686+ only, x86 lacks the optmizations, and slows down svga for the videos.
Props to current 0.5.1
1) Media support is better than ever imagined possible, every single person said it was auto-detected on boot
2) Fbsplash design looks great
3) Booted on about 90% of systems (room for improvement)
Cons of current 0.5.1
1) x86 architecture lacks optimizations
2) isolinux has too few boot options, some people can not choose what they need to boot
3) Fbsplash only goes to 1 terminal
4) mplayer is the only media player to play songs/videos
Development on 1.0 has begun, post your requests here before the RC is released. _________________ IRC!: #zen-sources on irc.rizon.net

My system is build on reiserfs now and I like to try reiser4. Can I use option cdcache on this LiveCD. I will:
Code: | mkfs.reiser4 /dev/hdc7 this is my Gentoo partition (feiserfs now)
umount /mnt/cdrom
put my backup dvd
mount cdrom etc

I'm looking foward to the new CD as a lightweight alternative to other reiser4 livecd's. RR4 would never work properly on this machine. Perhaps we can have a CLI version of solitaire?

It would be great to have the madwifi stuff included, as it's always been a big hassle installing Gentoo on such wireless systems without them on the live cd. This has been a big oversight on all the Gentoo live cds, and most other live cds I've used. Even if another custom Gentoo live cd has madwifi support, it's generally a different version than the current portage snapshot provides, and people usually have to get and copy to their hard drive (distfiles) either the approriate source and/or ebuild off the internet, and sometimes they are hard or impossible to find. _________________ Main box- AsRock x370 Gaming K4
