Well actually I have some doubts myself. It's the upgrade worth the many deps (gnome deps...)? _________________ I may not agree with what you say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it. |

Well, this was set off by someone in another thread who was complaining about the way RedHat forces you to install gtkhtml as a dependancy for gimp when it will run fine without it. :/ |

Those are all gnome2 packages, which you obviously don't have installed. Gimp-1.3.x is the gnome2 branch. It's as simple as that.
Alternatively, you could set -gnome2 and gtk2 in your use flags and it should build without those extras. |

[ebuild N ] gnome-extra/libgtkhtml-2.2.0
this is what causes the deps!
just edit the ebuild file and remove the line wich says gimp depends on libgtkhtml
the setback: you can't view the additional gtkhtml help files ( oh bummer =] )
but gimp will work just fine without it ( i've tested it for both 1.3.12 and 1.3.13)
you should unmerge the previous version first though, otherwise you'll get shared library problems (well, i got them).
and i recon gtkhtml isn't a use file? or is it? anyways, the ebuild doesn't check for it, it includes gtkhtml without asking... |
