Hullo.
arson doesn't see my burner, or any devices. My burner is IDE but I've done the whole scsi emulation deal. xcdroast sees the burner fine.
In searching for the truth I see other threads mentioning /dev/sg0 or /dev/sg1. I don't have any /dev/sg* items at all.
Side question: anyone know offhand if/how xcdroast can burn from bin/cue? |

hi rizzo,
well, i don't know your systems configuration so i can't tell why there isn't a /dev/sg* on your machine. usually you gotta enable scsi emulation in the kernel and raw scsi support.
however, if xcdroast works you can use the bchunk tool (app-cdr/bchunk) to convert the bin/cue files into an regular iso file.
greets

Yes mine is at sr0 also. Does arson just refuse to look there? |

can't you just create a link from /dev/sg0 to /dev/sr0? |

no no no... /dev/sr0 and /dev/sg0 are not the same thing. when you send bits through /dev/sr0 you're just viewing the cdrom as a normal filesystem, while /dev/sg0 let you send direct scsi commands (like "burn my cd").
/dev/sr0 appears when you do "modprobe sr_mod" (if compiled as a kernel module), /dev/sg0 appears when you "modprobe sg" (same thing)
they should point to /dev/scsi/something/.../cd /dev/scsi/something/.../generic |

OK so once again my boneheadedness shines through. I hadn't done the scsi emulation setup per the install document. I did that way on my work box and it works great, so I'm did the whole build-as-module thing for the ide-scsi emulation and am currently recompiling. I'm going to assume that that is the reason.
update Yes that was the problem. Arson sees the burner just fine.
