com da oggetto: i pacchetti di GNOME-2.12 stanno passando alla versione stabile (finalmente)
l'altra notizia riguarda php. pare sia stato completato (stanotte, credo) il famigerato passaggio da dev-php/php a dev-lang/php. il prossimo passo sarà la rimozione del primo da portage.
con la nuova versione si avranno quattro versioni stabili (4.3, 4.4, 5.0 e 5.1) ed è stata completata anche la migraione dei pacchetti di pear
ricordo che non esiste più il pacchetto mod_php, ma il modulo viene installato automaticamente con USE="apache"

che differenza c'è tra fam e gamin? ma soprattutto per gamin non devo addare nulla al boot?

gamin implementa le API di FAM, ma è una riscrittura. sono stati risolti parecchi problemi, e funziona nettamente meglio.
inoltre avere un servizio in meno in esecuzione non è per niente una cosa malvagia, anzi... |

Ehm essenzialmente gamin come ha detto k.gothmog è una riscrittura del demone FAM, i vantaggi sono notevoli, altre al fatto che se abilitato si interfaccia direttamente con inotify, inoltre è un demone che viene avviato on-demand e quindi assolutamente inutile abilitarlo al boot.

| uff. che pacco, ho scoperto che gnome sui server rsync europei non è ancora stabile mentre su quelli americani c'è già. quindi se qualcuno è interessato alla cosa per oggi gli conviene fare il sync sui loro. |

non so, anche io avevo fatto il sync stamattina,
però non ho trovato la bella sorpresa. boh... l'ho rifatto questo pome sul server americano dopo essermi accertato che ci fosse il nuovo gnome. |

Ho provato a seguire la guida suggerita da Luca89, ho fatto l'emerge di gnome, ho fatto 1 revdep-rebuild ma mi trovo in questa situazione (scusate ma ho dovuto ricopiare a mano l'output dell'errore, per cui spero non manchino info utili...)

Ok, proviamo con qualche info in più.
Per prima cosa ho aggiornato python alla 2.4, poi ho fatto 1 emerge gnome ma ad un certo punto (mi sembra l'emerge di Hal) mi veniva segnalato che mi serviva un kernel più nuovo del mio, cioè del 2.16.12-r6. Ho aggiornato il kernel alla 2.6.15-r1, riavviato ed è a questo punto che mi sono trovato un bello schermo nero col cursore fisso in un angolo senza possibilità alcuna di arrivare anche solo ad un prompt di shell.
Ho riavviato col livecd, mi sono chrottato e ho lanciato sto benedetto revdep-rebuild.
Eseguendo il revdep-rebuild mi sono trovato due pacchetti da ricompilare, openoffice-bin e gnome-extras-python. Non so come, dopo vari fallimenti, insistendo l'operazione è andata a buon fine. Ho poi ridato un revdep-rebuild -p per vedere se era tutto a posto e mi veniva segnalato che stavolta il solo openoffice-bin aveva dei problemi. Ho ripetuto il rebuild e sono passato a fare un emerge world. La situazione era questa:

Ma io avevo aggiornato al 2.6.15-r1!!! E infatti, quando ho riavviato il pc dopo aver aggiornato il kernel ho scelto dal menu di grub la voce relativa a tale versione del kernel e il kernel carica tranquillamente, fino al momento in cui dovrebbe partire gnome. Perchè allora mi viene segnalato il kernel vecchio? Non c'entra vero il fatto che mi trovo in un ambiente di chroot e magari viene letto nel grub.conf la prima voce che è il 2.6.12-r6?
Scusate la confusione, ma non ci capisco più na mazza...

Ok, ho risolto smascherando gnome-python-extras. L'unica cosa, che mi dà 1 pò fastidio, è che ho perso le mie impostazioni personali, quali i miei preziosissimi bookmarks di firefox e le impostazioni di evolution, nautilus etc
