I have an AMD Duron 850mhz system with a Seagate 80gb HDD, this is going to be my Gentoo Linux learning machine
the problem is that Fdisk only sees 712mb,
Setup recognizes the drive and its capacity but fdisk on the Gentoo 2005.0 live install disk does not
is there anyone who may have a suggestion?
I would like to thank you all for pointing out the obvious , I am very new
to Linux but am confident that I will do well now that I have this forum
to rely upon, thanks again the problem is solved

Are you sure you aren't trying to fdisk the CD? |

yeh make sure you are using fdisk for your hardrive not your cdrom, so use "fdisk /dev/hda", personally I prefer cfdisk to fdisk so you may want to try that. |

a friend of mine(yeah...) had the same problem, he tried to use the cdrom, make sure you are passing the right drive as argument for fdisk, by typing fdisk -l and use the 80-gb one gl |

I've recently just posted a similar thread, because I somehow missed this one.
I have a 100 GB disk that it recognizes as only 417 MB.
How can I be sure to write to the Hard Disk instead of the CDRom? Also, where can I find out more about cfdisk?
Thanks ahead of time. |
