Hello!

I have my sound up and running nice!

But it drops out everytime i reboot the computer.

When it boots, it starts the alsa/sound driver. And everything is fine. But when i try to lets say play a mp3. its just quiet. Then i need to run alsaconf, and then it works again..

Why?

Post the contents of "/etc/conf.d/alsasound". Also, it's possible that your desktop environment restores volume levels. If it does, it overrides the settings loaded by Alsa on boot. So, check your sound configuration panel for restoring mixer settings on startup.

you have to change in /etc/conf.d/alsasound

Code:
RESTORE_ON_START="no"

to yes...

then when you have found a configuration that suits you.. issue the command
Code:
alsactl store
as root.

hope this fixes your problems!

While you're at it, configure it to not save the settings on shutdown, or you will loose your mixer settings permanently when some application changes them.

Fortunatly, KDE's mixer restore function can be disabled. I suspect Gnome's can be disabled as well.

well, yeah.. I think that sort of behaviour is bogus.. but I guess it could make sense if you have many different users using the same computer.. etc etc.
