Has anyone successfully used an HP Deskjet 3320 with Linux? If so, how? |

i use a 3420 with cups, foomatic and hpijs

then dl the ppd file for youre printer from linuxprinting.org
the ppd goes somewhere i cant remember off the top of my head and im not at my box probably in /etc/cups or/usr/share/cups or smthin then
rc-update add cups default
and then start it /etc/init.d/cups start
then point youre browser to localhost:631 or :601 cant remember
and configure it

I'm currently having a problem with my HP Deskjet 3320 as well... I downloaded the ppd file, put it in both /etc/cups/ppd and /usr/share/cups but when I type rc-update add cups default it gives me an error:
* /sbin/rc-update: /etc/init.d/cups not found; aborting.
Can someone help me? I typed in dmesg and it gives me this:
Code: | hub 2-0:1.0: USB hub found
hub 2-0:1.0: 3 ports detected

It seems that it is recognizing it, but OpenOffice isn't. I have had cups 'merged, and I 'merged foomatic, i started the /etc/init.d/cupsd script, (yes it's cupsd on my PC,) and I can even point my browser tab to localhost:631 and try to add a printer, but I can't print a test page either... I don't know if I'm getting it's "location" wrong or what... The printer is on, and connected via USB, and I know my USB ports are working, but I can use my Lexar JumpDrive and my Logitech USB mouse just fine.
EDIT: Alright, a friend told me the location should be either /dev/lp0 or /dev/usb/lp0. However, that still doesn't correct the problem.. >< |

I appear to be having a similar problem.
I was following my own howto on how to install a Lexmark Laser Printer. It worked well last time I used Gentoo. As you can see by the date on the howto it's been over a year. I think something has changed.
I no longer have /dev/usb/lp*. The printer is seen by lsusb:
Code: | # lsusb
Bus 002 Device 007: ID 043d:0059 Lexmark International, Inc.
|
Turning it off/on shows up in /var/log/messages
Code: | # tail -f /var/log/messages
Jan 9 18:53:39 localhost usb 2-4: USB disconnect, address 6
Jan 9 18:53:39 localhost drivers/usb/class/usblp.c: usblp0: removed
Jan 9 18:53:43 localhost usb 2-4: new full speed USB device using ohci_hcd and address 7
Jan 9 18:53:43 localhost drivers/usb/class/usblp.c: usblp0: USB Bidirectional printer dev 7 if 0 alt 0 proto 2 vid 0x043D pid 0x0059
|
http://localhost:631/printers/ will only allow me to give the printer a URI of Device URI: usb:/dev/usb/lp2. Doesn't match too well with what the log says. _________________ I am a sick man. ... I am a wicked man. An unattractive man. I think my liver hurts. -- Fyodor Dostoevsky |

Is there a printer howto I'm missing from somewhere that would help? _________________ I am a sick man. ... I am a wicked man. An unattractive man. I think my liver hurts. -- Fyodor Dostoevsky |

I've been scouring around and have found no such luck for my Deskjet 3320. Dammit, I need a printer so badly too. >< |
