MSI Neo2 Mobo
Geforce 6800 GT (256mb)
AMD64 3500+
I've followed the steps on
http://gentoo-wiki.com/HARDWARE_Nvidia_Driver_AGP_FastWrite_and_Side_Band_Addressing
with no luck
I had to create a folder in etc called hotplug and then create the file blacklist within it-- I don't know if this is normal.
I've set my xorg.conf to use nvagp
I uncommented in /etc/modules.d/nvidia the option the turns on fastwrite/agp
I've tried compiling agpgart as a module but it is still loaded by nvidia and agp is not turned on
I'm at a loss =(.
Thanks in advance
Chris

Its not a PCI Express video card is it?
When you say nvagp, are you referring the the kernel agp support for a nvidia motherboard, or the nvidia agp support provided by the nvidia-driver?
Please post the video card section of xorg.conf, and the output of lsmod.
If you make changes to /etc/modules.d/nvidia, you have to run modules-update for the changes to be recognized and added to /etc/modules.conf |

AGP card
Reffering to the internal nv agp on the card itself (this is the one that replaces agpgart correct?)
lsmod
I just recompiled the kernel again with agpgart as a module (and emerged nvidia-kernel after that) and its showing this
Code: |
nvidia
agpgart (used by nvidia)
|
I know nvagp can't load because agpgart is loaded as module but I can't get this not to load
I hae this in
/etc/hotplug/blacklist
and video stuff on xorg.conf
Code: |
Option "NvAGP" "1"
Identifier "Card0"
Driver "nvidia"
VendorName "nVidia Corporation"
BoardName "Unknown Board"
BusID "PCI:1:0:0"
|
cat /proc/driver/nvidia/agp/status
Code: |
status: disabled
AGP initialization failed, please check the output fot he 'dmesg' command and/or your systme log file for additional information on this problem.
|
dmesg | grep NVAGP
displays nothing[/code] |

Just remove agpgart and agp-via from your kernel and rebuild.
But does your Neo2 motherboard have the Via800Pro chipset? If so, the nvidia agp will not work with it. Use the kernel agp, works just as well anyways. |

that would explain some things Via K8T800 Pro = via 800 pro?
disabled IOMMU support
built in /dev/agpgart into the kernel
built in AMD Opteron/Athlon64 on-CPU GART support //im not completely sure I need this?? I have an amd64 3500+ so I figured I should build it in.
~13000fps on glxgears now
cat /proc/driver/nvidia/agp/status
Code: |
Status: Enabled
Driver: AGPGART
AGP Rate: 8x
Fast Write: Enabled
SBA: Enabled
|
Thanks for the help, I feel really stupid for not realizing about the Via 800 XD |

It's an easy mistake because the nvidia agp supports the Via KT800 but not the Via KT800 Pro.
Glad you got it working. |

I realized some time ago that NvAGP put my video card in AGP 4x mode. When I switched to the kernel AGP, it went right into 8x mode with no problems. *shrug* In my view, there's no real reason to use the NvAGP over the kernel AGP unless something is seriously broken. |
