Those ppl who made NWN are penguin lovers too? hehehe

Hey guys, just a thought, why not just mount your windows drive which have NWN already installed on it and just copy the files over?
dah, thats what I did, works great.. but shit, I didn't know my NWN was like 2gb in size. lol

Not everyone (like me) has Windows on their computers. I only use Linux, thank you very much. :D

you don't have to have windows currently...only had it at one time...or have a friend who has it and you can install it there...zip it up in some format (rar, tar.gz whatever) burn to CD and bring it back...now you never have to have windows ever again :)

I'm hoping NWN's final can install from CD w/o the need to use a windows partition...then I can get rid of windows FOR GOOD!

Everything I need is on Linux now, including the one game I own (nwn). Just waiting for the final version and the release of the dependency on Windows.

Ravage's installer works without windows. Also, if you've already got it installed using your windows partition, why would you need to keep it?

just because I'm paranoid about beta software involving my favorite game...I'm not too paranoid about open source beta because that is almost release usually...but closed source beta I'm wary of...so, I just keep it in case something goes wrong...I'll have something flimsey but there to fall back on (and I have to dev in windows for some of my homework in school )

About that ebuild, seems I can't find any other version of the client than the latest one. What to do, would it work to just rename it so emerge thinks it's the right version?

I know it's beta...that's why I'm hanging on to M$ Windows...once it's released, I can finally ditch my crasher OS...at that time, I'll probably end up re-installing Gentoo, unless there's an easy way to resize an ext2 FS? from 10 GB to 30GB.

Use parted

I don't remember the commands off the top of my head, but I remember it not being the hardest thing I've ever had to do in linux

Alternatively, why not just make that other 20 gb its own partition and mount it at boot time. I keep one around for storage purposes, plus on the offchance I destroy the rest of my system it still has all the gzips (and music!) I need. Need... yes that's it. Mmmmm

Does it seem just a tad slow for anyone else? I am running beta 4 on an XP1800 with 512MB of PC2700 and a Geforce4 and its definately not as spiffy like as my similar XP rig. I've been looking around their official forums but I have seen anything helpful yet although it looks like it may be a beta 4 problem. :?

prttybean:Loading modules is the only things that seems a bit slow to me.

miseiler: thx for that, I'll use it once nwn is fully released. I duplicate all my important data on a separate server (including my 3GB of music, not a lot but it's all my CD's so I could also re-encode them...but if I do I'm going to use ogg rather than mp3 I think)...I'm not too worried about losing data if my system crashes.

I will do a man parted to find out the commands, thx.

I turned the video options to "fast" and I now get ~27 fps. Its playable now but much prettier on the XP box  Loading modules is ok for me though.

I'm happy for now. It works pretty well and its beta so I'd imagine its only going to get better.

Mine runs faster than it did under windows, load times are fast and I have everything set high, 4xaa 1280x1024 and 64mb textures and the like. then again my system is preety fast, p4 2.4ghz 512pc2700 and a gf4ti4200. I'm still using beta 2 however, haven't found a reason yet to patch it up to beta 4.

My video's faster and play is faster, but the load times are unexplained for me still...it loaded much faster on the windows box (the modules load slow for online games in Linux, but fast in windows for online)...your system is batter than mine which might explain the load times...my system: P3-M 1GHz, 512Mb PC133, Gf2Go (laptop system).

Well I notice no difference in load times between the windows box and the gentoo box.

Windows XP--> AMD XP2000, 512MB of PC2100, geforce 4
Settings on high and its beautiful.

Linux box --> AMD XP1800, 512MB of PC2700, geforce 4
Settings on lowest settings possible. It looks ok.

I am gonna load the newest Nvidia drivers on the gentoo box tonight. I've heard that it corrects a crash I've had happen a couple of times in the pennisula prison. Maybe it'll help my dismal performance as well. This box runs UT2003 with high settings without a problem so I'm sure this is fixable. It bugs me that XP is whooping my gentoo box here

Well just upgraded from beta 3 to beta 4 and I'd have to say I liked three better. So far no matter what I do, the graphics and frame rates stink in beta 4, though the same settings in beta3 got me great graphics and great framerates (30 - 40 on average).

Just thought 'I'd fyi, not sure if anyone else has seen this on their box. I'm running NWN on a Dell Inspiron 8200 P4 - 1.8 with 512 MB Ram and a Nvidia Geforce 4 440 Go (32 mb version).

UPDATE: Okay color me a obvious ID 10 T error. I forgot that I switched to 16 Bit resolution instead of my regular 24 bit, given that low frame-rate at 16 bit is a known issue..... ah well teaches me to look before I post

i am getting the SDL parachute deployed error. I am trying to use blacks advice at the beginning of this thread but am not sure how to be a member of the games group.
I've also tried phantasy's advice but that didn't work either. I remove the patch.key after done following his directions and I get
error

Anyone have help or more things to try?

I have having real issues getting this dern thing going. For the sake of not boring some of you, my issue (the start chapter crash thingy coupled with Advanced Video Settings crash thingy) can be summarized in this thread: http://nwn.bioware.com/forums/viewtopic.html?topic=211053&forum=72

At any rate, if someone might have some insight as to how to fix that, outside of following BioWare's instructions and the 3rd party FAQ life would be great :)

Regards,

Jeff

From the changelog:
# fixes the problem of shadows and floor triggers not being visible with some graphics cards
# packaged with a recommended SDL library, loading of the library is controlled through the LD_LIBRARY_PATH variable in the nwn script
# improved handling of international characte
