for those with the libmss.so.6 error, there should be a link between it and libmss.so.6.5.2 in the miles dir. I have my linuxnwn folder on a fat32 partition which means I cant use symlinks for the file, so I just copied it and everything works as normal. _________________ a.k.a port001

I had the link there, but the permissions were set wrong. Do a chmod root:games * or similiar in that dir. _________________ Do you want your posessions identified? [ynq] (n) |

Still no luck. All i can do now is create a new char or select some char, but when I load the modules, the game crashes again without any useful message, even in /nwn/logs/nwclientLog1.txt - sigh... it's probably either a beta problem or some of the game files I copied over are b0rked. _________________ Do you want your posessions identified? If you installed the game with the linux installer and then updated with the nwn-linux-patch1.29 there seems to be some files missing or corrupt. I did a new installation that way and it didn't work, with crashes when loading/starting a game and when entering the advanced video menu. So for the moment I'm using my windows installation until the installer is working |

This md5sum file shouldn't pose any problems... It doesn't check your saved games, characters, or anything of the sort.
It does check all the data, including the beta 2 client (I'll change this in the future).
If you want to check your data, do this:
cd /path/to/nwn
wget http://icculus.org/~dolson/files/nwnlinux.md5
md5sum -c nwnlinux.md5
The sums came from a Windows install, one that works for me in Linux.
Good luck.

I had the same problem..
when I installed it on my bro's windows machine I saw that it was 1.11 out of the box, instead of 1.10 that I've seen everywhere else might be the problem.. upgrading that copy, copying the above files and running fixinstall solved the problem..
Not sure if I'm allowed to make those files available though... |

In response to ZeroDivide's question about windowed mode, you need to set
AllowWindowedMode=1 in your Display Options in nwn.ini in additions to FullScreen=0 _________________ Excellent.. |

I was having the black screen and then was dumped out before the game could load. I am running an nvidia video card and I am using the current nvidia 1.0.3 driver. I tried a few things and it turned out all I had to do was to change the Screen section of my /etc/X11/XF86Config file:
Code: | Identifier "Screen 1"
Device "NVIDIA"
Option "NvAgp" "2"
Monitor "ViewSonic"
DefaultDepth 24 |
I changed the NvAgp option from 0 to 2 and it worked. I have played single player and connected to my linux server in multiplayer. It works great for me in both windowed mode and full screen mode. Awesome.
I have noticed that I seem to always have to run the opengl-update nvidia option everytime I boot. Is there a way to make that a default?

I haven't had an opportunity to try the icculus.org linux installer, but I just did a complete install from scratch on my brother windows machine, then ran the patch to 129 (about 20 megs). Then I followed the instructions from
http://nwn.bioware.com/downloads/linuxclient.html
before chgrp'ing the nwn tree to games (as I read in this thread somewhere) and NWN launched without a single problem. |

Maybe the problem is related to the fact that I use a non-english version and the beta won't run on it.

I opened some of the failing files with a hex editor and realized that they contain some translated strings. What worries me is that in the localized version some texture and data files are missing.... Guess we have to wait until Bioware comes out with a native linux installer. This just makes no sense that you need windoze to install this game.
At least for the dialog.tlk file: You can get it here from Bioware:

and sure you updated nwn to 1.29 and tried latest nvidia drivers. many people have reported that nwn does not work with 3xxx nvidia drivers. |

NWN worked fine here... until I rebooted. o_O
I get the "bing" and "Error" on first run and every time I run it after that, just "Error", so this:
I tried opengl-update xfree AND nvidia, but neither helped. It's like yesterday I had activated something that I can't seem to activate anymore. *cries*
Permissions on /dev/nvidia* and sound are fine as well... :/ |

i just found a solution for my problem, i just needed to deactivate the following option in /etc/X11/XF86Config
"Option "HWCursor" "true""
and now everything works |

I've made some 'progress'. Starting nwn now gives me a blank screen, 'bing' and exit back to Gnome.
I don't understand, it was working yesterday. |

This time it was working for me. i was using the latest version of ravages installer (~40mb). This one not only extracts your data to hd, it also patches the files up to 1.29, so it is a native, but inofficial, patch.
Woot... Playing NWN in 1280x1024 at 64bit textures and still smooth as silk. _________________ Do you want your posessions identified? [ynq] (n) |

@jay
where can one get this installer? ravages page isn't supplying us with it anymore... anyway nwn is up and running here at my place so im not in need of it anymore
But the other thing i wanted to ask you, are you sure nwn is using the 64 textures... because if you switch between the different types in the game i cant figure out any difference so there has to be something going wrong with those textures, because the 64 textures doesnt quiet look like 64 mb textures shouild look like! |

It was working all weekend... I got to the bottom of Meldanen's mansion in Blacklake... then all of a sudden when I try to talk to any henchman (hired or not), the game crashes with no error messages. Also, when I walk up to the door with the Dryad behind it, it crashes... Now when I start a new game it crashes, probably because Pavel immediately talkes to you and he's a henchman. This is getting REALLY irritating, I can't get any farther in the single-player game and finding internet servers is cumbersome .
My files were copied from the family Windows machine, but I'll try ravage's installer. My play disc is pretty scratched up though, I had to install minimal earlier and then copy the music and sound files from the CD. |
