Bah, you can't download the resources, so I have to install on Windows, update and copy them over. a little frustrating _________________ Excellent.. |

EDIT: never mind, I guess I should refresh before replying instead of waiting 10 minutes while downloading NWN in a different tab. |

I'm in a similar boat... I have my Play CD and Install CD 1... but Install CD 2 seems to be missing. I also still have my map, manual, heck, even my box.
I can't get by without a missing CD... *continues to search desk/room* |

I may have a solution.. I found a NWN folder in my wine folder, so if I can copy that to a windows drive, update it, and copy it back, it might work. _________________ Excellent.. |

Well i got NWN all installed and everything but there seems to be the same type of problem that i was having with frozen-bubble. Nwn (like frozen-bubble) uses the sdl libraries and i have an Nvidia GeForce4 ti 4600 video card and when i try to run nwn it acts like it's going to load and plays the first little bit of the music then crashes, so to get it to play i have to do Code: | opengl-update xfree | as root and then run nwn and it works fine (although the camera movement is kind of messed up still, especially on the vertical adjustment... but that is for Bioware to worry about.)
The only problem with this method is that i have to do two extra steps (su to root and run the opengl-update) and also that i can't use shiny water (i don't know if it's because i'm not useing Nvidia's opengl or because it's not implemented in the linux client... regardless it's still annoying.) |

Anyone have this working? If use opengl-update nvidia I get
Fatal signal: Segmentation Fault (SDL Parachute Deployed)
If I use opengl-update xfree I get
Xlib: extension "XFree86-DRI" missing on display ":0.0".

kosan: well if it's having the same craziness that frozen-bubble had, then maybe it'll have the same crazy solution? I can only run frozen bubble when I run it with "artsdsp frozen-bubble", so maybe "artsdsp nwn" will help?
Until I find my 2nd install CD, I can't really help you aside from speculation... sorry... |

I'm using opengl-update nvidia with no problems, I'm stilll using the nvidia 1.0.3123 drivers with gnome 2.2.

Yes if I run nwmain instead of nwn I also get that error but it also does not look like it is about to run. Both nwn and dmclient look like they get close.
Code: | ./nwmain: error while loading shared libraries: libmss.so.6: cannot open shared
object file: No such file or directory
|
hmmm..... |

Unfortunatly, that's what I did!
Code: | black@blackbox nwn $ ./nwn
./nwmain: error while loading shared libraries: libmss.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory |
BTW, the nwn file is this:
Code: | black@blackbox nwn $ cat nwn
#!/bin/sh
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:./miles
./nwmain $@
|
AH AH!!!!!!!!!!!
I installed the Linux client as root, and my umask is 077. Since the miles directory comes from the tar file, it was owned by user 500 (which doesn't exist on my system) and the permissions were rwxrwx---.
Now I'm getting the "Fatal signal: Segmentation Fault (SDL Parachute Deployed)" thing... |

At least I'm not the only one getting the parachute thing.. What's your system like?
I'm running ~x86, athlon xp 1800+, 1024mb ddr, 1.0.4 nvidia drivers, xfree 4.3, gnome 2.2, ck kernel sources _________________ Excellent.. |

I emerged frozen-bubble and it added a bunch of stuff from the media-libs/sdl*
I now get the error:
[/code]./nwn
Error: This version of the NVIDIA kernel module is too old to support
version checking. Please update your kernel module to version 1.0.4191
Error

Yes, got it working!
I think I figured it out about the SDL parachute thing!
By browsing a little into the NWN forums, I found this:
Quote: | - make sure you have write priveleges to the entire nwn tree |
I looked and indeed I had not set permissions correctly. Here's what I suggest: you may replace "root:games" with whatever you want! I installed NWN in /opt/nwn, so:
Code: | #chown root:games /opt/nwn
#chmod 770 /opt/nwn
#cd /opt/nwn
#chown root:games * -R
#chmod 770 * -R |
So that takes care of the permission problems. Of course, you have to then try to run the game as a member of the "games" group.
Hope this helps! |

I looked in /usr/portage/media-video/nvidia-kernal and noticed the version
nvidia-kernel-1.0.4191-r2.ebuild
Code: | emerge -up nvidia-kernel-1.0.4191-r2.ebuild
These are the packages that I would merge, in order:
Calculating dependencies \emerge: create(): aux_get() error on home/nvidia-kernel-1.0.4191-r2; aborting...
|
and then it exits. DOH! |
