Hi, iv been using Gentoo Linux for about a year now, i usally get my help from the chat room #gentoo but iv had a change in mind today and thought ill post my quick question here.

I havent updated Gentoo in about a month.. bad me *slaps self* but its because i dont want some packages updated i would like to keep the old version rather then the new one..

The packages i would like to keep are; mysql and apache

okay i havent updated for over over 2 months *slaps self again*

now i know you can go emerage -1 mysql and that will emerge it once only and wont include it in world updates, but i never did that for these packages.. and what im asking is how can i tell portage that i dont want these packages included in world updates?

Thank heaps, your Gentoo friend Tama ^_^

yeah i tried that aye then it bitches about how some sound package doesnt have something or something..
and then i mysql back and it stoped bitchin

i also tried to re emerge mysql with the version i wont and i added the -1 sign for once only but.. that didnt work either!

* MySQL-dev-db/mysql-4.0 found, up/downgrade to "dev-db/mysql-4.1" is unsupported
* export MYSQL_STRAIGHT_UPGRADE=1 to force

so yeah im out of ideas and im tired .. so if anyone wants to help me ill be very thankful :)

How about adding them to /etc/portage/package.mask ?

eg. if your current mysql version is 3.23.58-r1, then
echo ">dev-db/mysql-3.23.58-r1" >> /etc/portage/package.mask
will block all future updates to mysql
