After upgrading to gnome-2.12 everything seems to work fine at the first glance. But soon i encounteres some problems: The first one is briefly described at gnome-system-monitor bug. The second one is that every time a add a new item to the panel, the panel dies, and get's restarted - luckily with the new item added. After some investigations i found out that these issues are connected to my ~/.gconf directory because closing gnome, moving this directory away and restarting removes this problems - and my custum settings. While i can live with the fact that i have to reconfigure the panels, themes and so on, i wan't at least to keep my settings for evolution. A nice guy from the gconf mailing list advised me to

Quote:

The safest way would probably be to start fresh (move aside
your old ~/.gconf as you said you did, and let a new one be created) and
then copy only subdirectories of it from the backup to the new version.
For instance, if you replace ~/.gconf/apps/evolution altogether, you
should get back your Evolution settings. The panel settings are in
~/.gconf/apps/panel, so maybe if you leave this one alone and copy the
rest around, you can end up with a setup where you have most of your old
settings back (except for your panel layout, which you'll have to recreate).

However, removing ~/.gconf/apps/panel did not work as expected and just removing app/panel did not solve my problems. So i thought that maybe someone here in the forums may have some ideas on this topic.

I think - not perfectly sure about it - that removing
~/.gconf/desktop/gnome/interface did the trick. If anybode is interested in more
concrete results i can do some further investigations because i've a
backup of my buggy gconf dir.
