hi!
isn't kdm supposed to be installed when kde is emerged?
i recently did a fresh installation of gentoo on my laptop and when i finished the first thing i emerged was kde-3.5, using the ~x86 keyword. when it was over, i edited rc.conf with DISPLAYMANAGER and XSESSION variables and created also ./xinitrc on my user's home directory. After restart, no login manager... only console login like there was no kde or kdm... only could get in kde using startx (startkde gave me some errors). then i checked if i had kdm installed when i saw it wasn't...
question is: is this normal and should i have edited rc.conf before emerging kde or is some kind of bug from kde-3.5?

Sounds like you might need to run xdm first and then add it to your default runlevel:
Code: |
/etc/init.d/xdm start
|
That should bring up your kdm login if you set it correctly in rc.conf.
Then to make it automatic:
Code: |
rc-update add xdm default
|
