|
|
Hello!
I've got some problems with the right kernel config options for my laptop. The problem is this:
When I try to switch the LCD screen off (either by closing the lid or by pressing the key combo) or switch between LCD/VGA/both (using the Fn key combo), the system completely freezes. When I use the kernel from the livecd I used for installing Gentoo, everything's fine.
The problem occurs with every kernel compiled with my config, I tried 2.6.9-rc1-mm4 and 2.6.8-nitro5 (same as from the livecd).
I first suspected an ACPI problem since I first saw it when I closed the lid, but the ACPI options are the same in both configs, save some debug options I enabled because I thought it was an ACPI problem. So the problem must lie somewhere else.
Now, some info about the hardware:
Gericom Hollywood 8060B laptop
Pentium M (Centrino) 1500
GeForce Fx 5200 Go
Now, The two kernel configs:
Mine, not working: http://murli.34sp.com/o/config
Livecd, working: http://www.lxnay.scarlet.nl/livecd-iso/config-stable.gz
TIA,
Oliver |

I noticed that I have the same problem now. I've been using the same config for all my kernels so I believe this is a newly introduced problem in kernel 2.6.9 |

yeah, this is really, really annoying
someone must have a fix for this!
I also get this if I just leave it sitting at the terminal (no X running), it'll turn the screen off automatically after about 10-15 minutes, then lockup. is there a way to keep it from automatically shutting the screen off? |

==> could the problem be cause by xorg ... because it occured when i freshly installed gentoo on my dell inspiron and i hab xfree before and everything was good ... what laptops are you using?
i think i tried every kernel i could find now ... still the same ....
if anybody finds a solution to this, please post it ... i use my laptop for warw-alking and usually have it closed in my backpack ... but since i can't really close it anymore ... no war-walking for me .... _________________ never forget: god remains real until declared integer! |

I'm seeing the same problem here. If it helps narrow it down, it appeared on my system after upgrading from gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.8-r4 to gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.8-r5. Booting from the older kernel works fine.
I'm running a Dell Inspiron 8000 laptop.

Hooray! Whatever it was, it seems to be fixed in 2.6.9 final! Just gave vanilla 2.6.9 a try, and screen blanking works perfectly now!
Config is here: http://murli.34sp.com/o/config-2.6.9 |
