Hi
My machine has developed a bit of a problem. I've been running a Barton core Athlon XP2500 at 166FSB and 11x on a Asus A7N8X-Deluxe for 18 months now, no problem. I know old outdated spec now but recently i added a soundblaster live24 card and recompiled the kernel as it wasn't upto date. Shortly afterwards i started getting a kernel panic at boot time. However if i drop the fsb to 133 and run it as a XP2200 all is well and no panics. the current kernel 2.6.14-gentoo-r4.
I guess it's a hardware problem? I've checked the Vcore voltage which is correct at 1.65 by Auto.
Thanks |

Don't see why there should be any problems as those are the rated FSB & multiplier... Does this behave correctly if you remove the SB card again, and/or boot your old kernel with the card still in? |

drwook:
thanks for the response. i've tried an old known good kernel and no luck. so i'll take the sb out and see what happens. i do remember it being troublesome to even get the sb modules to load that i'd compiled when i did the 2.6.14 kernel build. it seemed to have trouble detecting the sb card. after reseating it a few times it seemed to be ok. i'll come back when i've removed it.
thanks |
