I'm running the 2.6.15-r1 kernel and when I do an emerge -p laptop-mode-tools, portage wants to install the following:
Code: | These are the packages that I would merge, in order:
Calculating dependencies ...done!
[ebuild N ] sys-apps/apmd-3.2.1_p4
[ebuild N ] sys-power/acpid-1.0.4-r2
[ebuild N ] app-laptop/laptop-mode-tools-1.11-r1 |
Now, according to thisguide on the gentoo wiki (http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Automatically_turn_off_your_monitor) you don't need acpid for 2.6.x kernels. So do I still need these dependencies for laptop-mode-tools to work?
thanks!

If it needs the packages then that means it can't find something like it on your computer. This means that you do have to install them. Do you load them as modules or built in's. In the past I have a problem with built in kernel objects such as ALSA. I would install it in the kernel and nothing would pick up my card or alsa for that matter, then as a modual it worked perfectly. Also, the components may not be as compleate in your kernel as they are in a package. So you might as well DL and install them anwyay. |
