I habe a super fresh install of gentoo on my Laptop (been using it for 2 years on it before). The fonts look ugly (after font beautification... ) and the icon redenring looks crappy. Whats wrong with xorg or KDE?? |

In KDE's font configuration do you have subpixel rendering and hinting turned on? Also post your xorg.conf so we can take a look.
As for your images, you're having some kind of issue with png support. For whatever reason it's not supporting transparency and leaving you with weird distortion on the semi-transparent parts. What video driver are you using? What type of card do you have? _________________ Ubuntu Linux Dapper Drake running Gnome-2.14.1

Hang on a sec. Here goes.
It's a IBM T40p. So the video card is some Radeon Mobility. The Driver I'm using is "radeon".
Subpixel rendering is on in KDE. The fonts problem seems to be fixed now.
The icon problem remains....
What should I do?

BTW: Also custom mouse pointers look crappy, for example those:

Hmm.. any unusual errors in /var/log/Xorg.0.log? The config looks fine, although I've never had an ATI card. Try running X -configure, let that generate an X configuration file and try testing that file out. _________________ Ubuntu Linux Dapper Drake running Gnome-2.14.1

This is what "emerge -av xorg-x11" shows me...
Code: |
x11-base/xorg-x11-6.8.2-r6 -3dfx -3dnow +bitmap-fonts -cjk -debug -dlloader -dmx -doc -font-server -insecure-drivers +ipv6 -minimal -mmx +nls -nocxx +opengl +pam -sdk +sse -static +truetype-fonts +type1-fonts (-uclibc) -xprint +xv 0 kB

Anything wrong with those USE flags? |

Hmm, one might call that: problem solved. I rebooted (which I had done before, not changing anything...). And now it works. Kinda strange solution, though. Reminds me of other OSs... |

Had the same problem sometime ago. Changing RENDER Option under Extensions to enable in the Xorg.conf fixed it. |
