There is everybuddy, licq, kicq, etc
What you guy are u using ?
i can't find any which is good. licq was ok for icq but it seems to be outdated now..
I used Proteus on MacOSX (msn/aim/icq) which totally own every linux client (or windows for that matter) i ever tried
i just need it simple and reliable with good features (don't need file transfert for example;)
after freshmeating/googling around i found none which was acceptable.. so .. what IM client are u using ? |

Well, I've found gaim to be more than acceptable. It's reliable, fast, lightweight and stable. It supports 9 protocols and has a plug-in architecture. See http://gaim.sourceforge.net/ |

I use gaim also, but the lack of file transfer can be annoying. I tried everybuddy but i found it to be way too buggy on my system. Oh well, it's the best i could find thus far. |

I use gaim, only because I don't feel like emerging a dozen pacakges to find none are better. I really miss file transfer ability though. _________________ Quis separabit? Quo animo? |

kopete is an im client that runs any combination of ICQ, MSN, JABBER, & AOL.
It works rather well. |

I'm using Psy now. It is a Jabber client. Jabber is a XML based distributed, opened and free IM system (yeah!). But only because Gabber doesn't build :(.
Take a look at www.jabber.org for more info :P. |

I use kopete as well. They've released 0.4 few days ago, which includes sound notifications (from the change log. No ebuild yet).
See the change log: http://kopete.kde.org/ChangeLog _________________ There's someone in my head but it's not me - Pink Floyd |

I'm using gaim (for msn & yahoo) and ickle (for icq), all just to stay in touch with friends who use different messengers
ICQ support in gaim is not that good... so that's why I use ickle, it supports SMS and all that good stuff
The new gaim also supports all the smileys from MSN and Yahoo, which are quite fun if you like that kinda stuff. And it's easy to understand what Windows users mean now when they type those smileys.
I'd like to try GnomeICU, but the ebuild failed here..
I also like centericq, for console. I've been using it before, for a very long time. It supports ICQ, MSN, AIM, Yahoo and IRC. |

thx u guys )
i'm emerge gaim (though it was aim only due to the name..)
and i'll try kopete afterward (just been on the site, seems quite cool, altough i don't like KDE stuff, i just hope it runs on waimea :p)
also centericq is cool but it's console, so it's not well... cool if i need remote but still i don't really like using a term for those im clients |

I use gaim as well, but I'm quite shocked that no one has mentioned it's 'killer feature' the buddy pounce. This is the coolest thing ever and it works with any protocal that is supported by gaim. Essentially, you can have a message automatically be sent to a person the next time that person logs on. I have to admit that I miss the file transfer as well though. _________________ if i never try anything, i never learn anything..

Tristam29, why not just use icq and send it to the server and have that forward it instead |

|
|
Well, there's two problems with that. Most of my friends use AIM, thus I need something AIM compatible. Also, I really can't stand all those stupid bots on ICQ that send advertising messages, but I still want to be open for people to contact me that I don't know. Is there any way to get rid of those dumb bots? _________________ if i never try anything, i never learn anything..

Running none at the moment... I WOULD be using GnomeICU-0.98.2 if it weren't for the fact that the ebuild fails.
And I would use the earlier version ebuild, if it didn't segfault everytime I try to change user info...
Center ICQ until either work right. (Preferable GnomeICU-98.2 for the 2002 server side contact lists )
Ho hum. |

Are you talking about the ones that send webcam/porn advertisements? If so, I found that by removing my date of birth from my info stopped it from happening. I don't know if this is merely coincedental, but it worked for me. |
