|
|
the last few days i setting up a gentoo system (P3 866 128mb ram 20gb hdd etc)
i was checking the space that the / occupies and found out that is a lot
from checking the files i found that /usr/X11R6 is recursive
ie the X11r6 contains all the files of /usr and then the other X11R6 contins again all the files of /usr
it goes somehow like /usr/X11R6/X11R6/X11R6/X11R6/X11R6/X11R6/X11R6/X11R6..... and at the end of this it includes the files of X11R6
this takes too much hdd space
the same thing happens with /boot
is there a way to solve this??? |

/usr/X11R6 is just a symlink to /usr, and /boot/boot is just a symlink to /boot. |

thanks for the quick reply
yes it is a symlink (and i thought that the problem was that)
but is this normal???
can you please explain it to me better cause i'm a n00b
is it normal for a system with gnome firefox and generally not many packages installed to take up around 4GB???
i also noticed that .../portage occupies alot of space
is there a way of freeing up space |
