Hi Folks,
I have 2 80g Hard Drives and I want to install linux on a software raid. Currently the drives are connected to a HighPoint controller, but since it just uses software raid I might just connect them back to the onboard IDE ports.
So once that is done, I'll have hda and hdc.
What I want to do is to set up a small partition that enables me to boot windows, probably a linux /boot and then use EVMS to turn the rest into a RAID0.
Has anyone done this before and have any tips or instructions? I'm imagining that I will need to have both drives partitioned the same, meaning that if one has 10G for windows, the other will have 10G for windows in order for EVMS to be able to RAID0 the remaining space. Am I wrong with this?
Any help and guidance would be appreciated.

I had another idea and wondered if anyone had any thoughts...
disk0
part0 - 30mb ext2 /boot (type hidden - seen this done in a HOWTO before)
part1 - ~10g less 30mb /windows (type NTFS)
part2 - rest of disk /home (as EVMS RAID0)
disk1
part0 - 10g /root (ext3)
part1 - rest of disk /home (as EVMS RAID0)
the reason for the 30mb /boot is so that it can boot from the same drive for both windows and gentoo. The hidden type is used so that windows see part1 as C:\
Am I completely off track? The EVMS documentation says that a RAID0 can be done with two drives (or segments in this case) of unequal size, but that wouldn't be wise I wouldn't think... |
