Okay, I just got a new computer, and i'm trying to get the hardware sensors to work. I compiled the necessary parts into my kernel, but when I go to run sensors-detect one of the test fails. The machine shuts off when it fails...as if I had just unplugged the power cord.

I ran it again, but this time skipped the failing test, and sensors-detect finishes and tells me I need the ite87 chip. When I modprobe ite87 my system shuts off again... I have narrowed it down to the ite87 module, but I don't know what to do about it.

My new system runs a DFI Lanparty nF4 Ultra-D Expert, with an opteron 165. Everything else I have gotten more or less working.

Any ideas?

Old versions of lm_sensors were known to actually cause problems with IBM thinkpads... your best bet is to stop trying to use them if it is causing your system to reboot.

Hmm, okay, is there any other solution for hardware sensors then? Or am I out of luck.

It looks like you are out of luck... check the homepage of the lm_sensors project for any updates that might help.... also, try and contact them via email with your specific problems. I've been surprised how helpful some of the maintainers of FOSS projects can actually be.

Use mm-sources or use this patch http://bugzilla.kernel.org/attachment.cgi?id=7032&action=view

Ciao
