Hello,

Ive got some problems with my NEC-DVD-Burner :

First of all when i bough my Dell Inspiron 9300-Laptop the DVD burner wasn't recognized by Gentoo Linux , i have to edit some kernel source and my Grub.CONF
Code:
ide0=noprobe

as you can see in that thread https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-371583-highlight-fledah.html

Finally the DVD-burner was supported and I'm able to mount and play DVD with DMA suport, but now I would like to burn some DVD and when I start burning process with GnomeBaker or NeroLinux (I bougth a License ) the empty DVD inserted to record the DATA is not detected :( and the DVD driver seems to crash (I can't mount any disc and I must reboot.
Sometimes when I reboot about 15 times the DVD-R is detected and i'm able to burn.

Anyone have that kind of problem with this laptops ? ( my previous problems come from that my DVD-Recorder is detected as a PATA Device and Linux's support for PATA doesn't work very well )

sorry for english mistakes I'M french.

fledah,

There is really only one program for burning in linux - cdrecord. Its a command line program.
All the pretty graphics burning programs call cdrecord to do the work.

There are lots of dire warnings about PATA writing in the burning apllications. They date from a time when SCSI emulation was the only way.
The warnings should be ignored - both SCSI emulation and direct PATA writing work well.
I would reccomend you use PATA writing, since SCSI emulation may be removed one day.

thank you for your answr but i haven't enable SCSI Emulation just for fun, The only way tht i found to activate DMA Transfert on my laptop is emulating a SCSI Drive if could have a full native PATA support with DMA transfert i'll do it for sure but I can't.

And I'm almost sure that Nero is the onlyone software under linux that don't use CDRecord engine but it's own engine.

on top of tht if i remove the SCSI cdrom support my DVDburner is detected but no device is ascociated

fledah,

You are probably right about Nero using its own burning engine - it was ported from Windows after all.
What does lspci show for your chipset, please post it all ?
What does dmesg show for your DVD burner ?
