Help with Terminfo/Customizing my ttys?

I've been looking, for awhile now, for a way to change the colors on my PowerBookG3's Gentoo. It's not a very fast machine, so I don't think doing this with a framebuffer is the right way. So I've been investigating looking into making a custom copy of the linux terminfo, but I can't figure out how to specify what I want. I want to make the background blue and the foreground white, and I'd like this to be standard for all my ttys. But the syntax for terminfo sort of boggles my mind. Can anyone help me out with this?
