i have a raid0 for my root partition. when i reboot it complaines that the device is busy and wont unmount. well ofcourse its busy! is there anyway i can remove that error message?

You could try to adjust the order in

/etc/conf.f/rc

RC_VOLUME_ORDER="raid evms lvm dm"

ok ill give it a shot! is raidtools nessacary though? could i just unmerge it?

leave it.
I'm not quite sure if you really need it during working conditions. But U will need it when you add or remove disks.

I've had the same problem long in the past. It got solved by itself, after I've updated something (automatically, so I don't know exactly what). Are you running latest packages?
