4th attempt to install gentoo (and getting further all the time). Made a mistake and typed in:
# grep -v /proc/mounts > /etc/mtab (also failed to add "rootfs" - but I'm past that now)
now I've lost my prompt. I'm in the chroot environment and need to, exit out & unmount - to reboot (hopefully into a working Gentoo install).
How can I stop the current process to move forward with this install.............................
Got this far in the process last time - when I accidentally hit the mouse and lost the prompt - I now move the mouse off my desk when in the gentoo install.
thanks,
TomP

Not back to square one. Just reboot from the liveCD, remount the partitions as per the handbook, and take off where you left.
No need to start over everytime. |

If you end up in that situation again you can go to one of the other virtual terminals and get a prompt. This is done by holding down the Cntl+Alt+F2 keys to swith to another terminal. There are usually 6 terminals setup F1 thru F6.
