I started the installtion with no network and now ineed to emerge gento sources and genkernel from the cd is this possible ? i also have a manual which says when te the kernel has finshed copying , copy the kernel image to boot , does this not do this by deafult ?

If you have the universal cd then yes, you can do a networkless install. Its all in the handbook.

hey man thanks i figured it out nayway what i di was copy the distfiles from the cd and it worked soon as i did emerge im just a little worried that when i take this into work tommrow will my network staright off because i have not done a network install ?

Actually, most people who do a regular Gentoo installation (with network access) assume that their networking will "just work" because it was working on the LiveCD. Sadly, this is not the way it works.

The most important thing to get right is your kernel configuration. If the driver for your NIC is missing, then it will never work. Beyond that, you may need to configure something in /etc/conf.d/net if you are not using DHCP ...
